You should read the article in Time Magazine that goes with those pictures. Fascinating look at how Detroit came to be what it is today and what needs to be done to make it a viable city again.
My in-laws live in the Detroit area and we went on a drive through these neighborhoods one day, and I have to say, it was unlike anything I have ever seen before and is hard to describe in words, the photos are great.
